Frequently Asked Questions

What time should I arrive?

The standard 4x4 tour leaves Rum Village between 9.30 and 10.00 am.

If you arrive earlier, or have stayed in the village the previous night, there are a number of interesting sites close to the village that you can visit.  Otherwise, you are welcome to relax in Zedane’s office with some fresh Bedouin tea.

Other tours are more flexible and the times can be altered to fit with your travel arrangements.

How do I get there?

For details of how to reach us from other areas of Jordan, please see the ‘Map and Directions’ section of the site.

What do I need to bring?

If you have a large bag or suitcase, this can be left overnight in a safe room in the village because, unfortunately, not everyone’s bags will fit in the 4X4s!  It's best if you then bring just a small bag of necessities with you up to the camp for the night.

Suggested Items:

  • Your passport, money and travel documents
  • Sunscreen and a hat
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet paper (there are toilets in the camp but it is helpful if you bring your own paper)
  • Something warm - the desert can be chilly at night
  • flashlight

Whilst beds, mattresses and blankets are all provided at the camp, you are welcome to bring your own sleeping bag if you prefer.

What should I wear?

Please bring comfortable clothing that is suitable for the time of year and that you can climb onto rocks or a camel in.  Don’t bring anything that you mind getting sand on/in – there’s no need to dress smartly.

Whilst at the desert camp all types of clothing are acceptable, we Picturewould prefer that ladies do not wear skimpy clothing in the village – simply covering knees and shoulders is fine.

Trekking sandals are very useful in the desert, but not beach sandals, as these do not have the grip or support for scrambling!  If you intend to do more serious trekking or climbing, you may prefer sturdier boots or shoes – don’t forget your socks!

What facilities are there?

Rum Village:

There are a number of small shops in the village for food and water, and the Rest House serves food and has some accommodation.  There is no ATM or bank in the village, so please make sure you bring enough money to cover your costs whilst in Wadi Rum.  Zedane’s office has a guest bathroom, luggage storage and a seating area.

The Desert Camp:

At the camp you will find beds, toilets and a solar powered hot shower.  Dinner and breakfast are provided along with your accommodation.  There is no electricity in the camp so if you need to recharge cellphones, ipods or any other electronic devices you should try to do so in the office before leaving on the tour.  Also, due to the lack of electricity, if you have a flashlight it is a good idea to bring it to the camp because it is very dark after sunset.
